1/ 15/07 Danbury CT The United Spinal Rangers rang in the new year with an impressive 1-1 tie against the first place Portland Pirates followed by a win over the 2nd place Pennsylvania Centerpedes by the score of 4-2 in a tight, hard fought contest. Against the Bugs, the Rangers lit the lamp first on a pretty goal by Ranger team scoring leader Bryan Genovese. A feed from Chris Meigel set up the goal. Genovese then scored again on a wide angle shot just inside the blue line that you know the bug goalie wishes he could have back. The Bugs began to swarm and got back into contention off a Josh Moran wrist shot making the score 2-1 halfway through the second period. The Rangers countered with their 3rd goal and eventual game winner as Igor “the bear” Hursky one timed a centering feed from mike symczak making it 3-1, rangers. In the 3rd period, ranger Nick Teodoro carried the puck the length of the ice through a web of bug players eventually sliding it past the PA. Netminder to make the score 4-1. Mike “ man boy” Hallman made it 4-2 with 5 minutes left in the 3rd . The bugs pressed hard keeping the puck in the ranger end for the remainder of the game, but it was too little, too late as the rangers and goalie Dave White held on for the victory. Notably absent from the bugs lineup was veteran playmaking forward Mike Doyle In addition to great skating and passing there was some extracurricular activity as the ever dangerous Jimmy Connelly kept digging for a puck in the ranger crease after the whistle. Ranger goalie Dave White took exception to this and responded with a glove to the face, Vic Calise quickly came to his goalie’s aid and pushing and shoving ensued but was quickly broken up by the linesmen . Correction : the ranger goal that tied the game vs the pirates was scored by Joe Mendez off a beautiful feed from Tim Ripley, Nick Teodora got the 2nd assist by keeping the puck in the Maine zone.
