Fired up Wildcats (NH) sink Pirates (ME):
The New Hampshire Wildcats faced off with the Portland Maine Pirates in the second game of the day on Sunday Feb. 11th. NH was finally with most of its roster including the return of Joe Howard and Chris McGarry, who were both playing in their first games of the season. Maine was without team leader Pete Grosso and his absence would be felt as NH spent a lot of time in Maine’s offensive end. Both goalies Luis for NH, and Labbe for Maine, kept the game scoreless, until Howard lit the lamp on a great pass from Johnny “Hollywood” McArdle, near the end of the second period. As it turns out this would be all the scoring for the game, as NH had a goal disallowed in the third and missed an open net near the end of the game. St. Germaine had a chance to even the game with less than two minutes remaining, but was stopped by a great glove save by Luis to preserve the win and hand Maine their first loss of the season. “Of course it is great to have Joe Howard out there, but this win was a team win,” said Tom Carr coach of the NH Wildcats, “every player on our team did something to help us win today!” Mike Ciavarro, defenseman for the Wildcats, was given the game puck following the win. “Mike was huge for us today,” said Carr, “he made a ton of plays that helped us win and for a first year player in only his 5th game its just great to see!” NH still looks forward to putting their full roster together for a game, however NH learned this week that that veteran player Mike Geary would not be on the ice this year. “I talked to Mike this week and he told me that he just can’t go this season, “ said Carr, “Mike is a great guy, solid player, and great leader, we will miss him on the ice, but we all wish him all the best and continued health!”
