| Wolfpack brings fight to Pirates | ||||||||||||

March 19, 2006: The Connecticut Wolfpack was playing its second game of the day, coming off a difficult loss to New Hampshire that assured the Wolfpack a fifth place finish for the season. Maine, also playing its second game of the day was still in the hunt for the league championship to be determined between this game and the game following between New York and PA. With nothing to lose for the Wolfpack and everything on the line for Maine, the Connecticut team came out in the first period stronger than they have played all season and held the Pirates to a scoreless tie until less than 30 seconds remained in the second period when the Pirates finally were able to put one past Mike Messier, the fill-in goalie for the Wolfpack. The Pirates came out strong in the third period, knowing that every point they could get would improve their chance of a league championship if the team records required going to a tiebreaker format. The Wolfpack withstood a barrage of shots by the Pirates in this third period. Connecticut continued to play their strongest game of the year holding Maine scoreless in the third period. The horn finally sounded on the season for both teams with Maine squeaking out a hard fought 1-0 victory. Game Photos by Marie Auger Dittmer and David Punia
