January 22, 2006: The final game
of the day on Day 2 of the Prudential Northeast Sled Hockey League saw
the Portland Pirates beat up on the CT Wolfpack. The Pirates spread the
scoring around led by Grosso with 2 goals and 4 assists, and Sousa with
2 goals and 4 assists. Other Pirate goals were contributed by
Stephens(2,) Goodnow, and Moore.
The young Wolfpack team played with inspiration and enthusiasm, led by their Captain, Karen Smith in goal with 22 saves, but was overmatched by the seasoned, experienced Pirates. Often a little slower on the ice, the Wolfpack committed a team and league high six (6) penalties during the game while trying to keep up with the speed of Maine. The Wolfpack team appreciated the inspirational words of Craig Gray of the Pirates who visited their locker room after the game and expressed his appreciation of the hard play of the Wolfpack right to the final buzzer and the improvement that he has seen by all of the Wolfpack players in only two seasons of sled hockey. Final score Pirates over the Wolfpack 8 to 0.
