January 22, 2006: In a game that featured end to end action the
United Spinal Sled Hockey Team and the Portland Pirates skated to a 1-1
tie in Prudential Northeast Sled Hockey League action at the Danbury Ice
arena Sunday afternoon.
New York scored early when their aggressive fore-checking caused Maine to turn the puck over deep in their own end; far too close to Maine Goalie Jeff Labbe, who was outstanding on the day, to have a shot at stopping. To Maine's credit they fought back with a short bench and defenseman Pete Grosso netted the equalizer. New York had a full complement of players but spent just enough time in the penalty box to negate their bench advantage. Maine actually played stronger second and third periods and ended up out shooting New York. New York Goalie Dave White played was his usual strong game providing the United Spinal team with a dependable deterrent to Maine's pressure in the final period. Both Maine and New York picked up 2 PNESHL League Standing Points in the game and United Spinal remains the league leaders. New York, however, did sustain several penalty minutes which would be the first tie-breaker should there be a tie in League Standing points at the end of the season.
