| NY dominant in battle with old rival | ||||||||||||
| Hockey history was made on Dec 4th as
play commenced in the Prudential Northeast Sled Hockey League. For the
first time ever intrastate adult sled hockey games for teams from Philly
to Maine were played under the banner of an organized league. The last game of the day featured the United Spinal Rangers against their long time rival the NEP/ UNH Wildcats. Though the outcome was a one-sided 6-0 in favor of the Rangers, the Cats didn’t make it easy. They had an experienced mobile defense but lacked scoring punch up front. The Rangers dominated the first period as they rolled all three lines. In the second period the Cats clawed back and successfully pinned the Rangers in their zone but were unable to generate solid scoring opportunities. The third period saw the emergence of the Ranger third line centered by converted defensemen Bill Hannigan who showed his adept passing skills by setting up Joe Mendez for 2 goals to lock up the victory. Also contributing to the victory was the “Jersey” line featuring, Ripley, Symczak and rookie Nick Teodoro. Ranger goalie Dave White, who posted had already posted a shutout in his earlier game was equally impressive in his second game posting another shutout. Regarding the next league meet Jan. 22nd coach Schwartz commented, “We go from cats and dogs to bugs and buccaneers. It should be interesting” (Game Photos courtesy of BobMcGarry)
